Fishing in the Leech Lake Area

Last Saturday I went down to the Boy River Walleye spawn to see how the

how the walleye run was doing. I found out it was almost over and the DNR had collected 300 quarts of walleye spawn. I was glad to see the run was a sucess this year as Leech Lake is due to get 22.1 million walleye fry stocked this spring. It was also good news for Anglers that get out fishing that the female walleyes should be hungry.

If you get out fishing stay in the shallow water where the walleyes should be hanging out waiting for a tasty meal.

A jig and a minnow will be your best bet but if we get some warmer days nightcrawlers or leeches might be the choice. The crappie bite should be starting in some of Leech Lake boat harbors if you can get access to fish. Hope you have a fantastic opener!!
